Herbert Lomas has created a varied round of parts in a very large number of plays, achieving many notable successes. Has frequently appeared in Shaw plays and holds the undisputed record for the number of bis appearances in Galsworthy plays, which include John Anthony in Strife, Hornblower in The Skin Game, John Builder in A Family Man, Malise in The Fugitive, Jones in The Silver Box, the gamekeeper in The Eldest Son, the Prison Governor in Justice. Also played Abraham Lincoln, and the Coroner in Inquest. Played important rôles, both in England and the United States, in Bird in Hand, Hindle Wakes and other plays. Made a brilliant screen debut in “Hobson’s Choice”. Recently, when Erich Pommer saw Herbert Lomas act in London, he said “If I had seen this a few months ago, I would have made an English Version of my latest film and would have offered Mr. Lomas the Jannings part.”
