Fred Leroy Granville, A. S. C., like Bill Beckway [William Beckway], is a bloody Britisher by birth.

Fred Leroy first saw the light at Worton Hall, Isleworth, Middlesex, England. He became interested in photography when a little boy and it is still the passion of his life, but it was not until eight years ago that Jim Crosby, at the old Selig [William Nicholas Selig] plant in Edendale, gave him his first instruction in the use of the motion camera. He was an apt pupil and very soon got his opportunity at Universal where he photographed two pictures for Tom Ricketts. Then followed in succession connections with Dick O’Brien, Alan Dwan and Charlie French [Richard O’Brien | Allan Dwan | Charles K.French], after which he went into the land of snow and ice to photograph “The Rescue of the Steffanson Arctic Expedition” and followed this with a series of North Eastern Siberian pictures.

Then followed “Liberty” with Henry McRae; “The Red Ace,” Jack Jaccard [Jacques Jaccard]; “Undine,” Henry Otto; “Hearts of Humanity,” Alan Holubar [Allen Holubar]; “Pitfalls of a Great City,” Frank Lloyd; “The Speed Maniac,” Tom Mix; “Loot,” William C. Dowlan; “Ambition,” Holubar; then to G. B. Samuelson to photograph Peggy Hyland in “At the Mercy of Tiberius.”

After several more pictures at Universal Mr. Granville went to England where he filmed “The Honeypot,” “Love Maggy,” “Sanity Jane” with the Countess Barcynska.

At this writing Mr. Granville is still in England with the Samuelson Film Company, producing at Worton Hall, his birthplace.
